Starting this year, in order to file taxes electronically, you need a
PIN number.
Why I would give a fuck if some other person claimed to be me, and paid
my taxes for me, I'll never know.... but anyways....
So I use Quickbooks. Have for 4 years. I always just click on Pay
Payroll Liabilities, and my money is automagically sent to the IRS. Then
I click Process Payroll Forms and the forms are automagically delivered
to them as well.
So 1st Quarter 2007.....
Quickbooks notifies me that I need to enroll in EFTPS and get a pin
number before I can pay my taxes. No sweat... I click what it says and
says that Ill receive my PIN in 1 - 2 weeks... ok fine
2 weeks later, I receive a letter from the IRS with a 8 digit number
enclosed. Sweet! My PIN...
I log into quickbooks and submit my taxes.... it asks for a 4 digit pin.
What the fuck? So I try the first four digits of the 8.... it says in 48
hours ill know if it was accepted.
2 days later it was rejected.
I tried again with the last 4 digits..... again, in 48 hours I'll know
if it was accepted....
Nope!

I call the IRS to find out what the hell is going on. They tell me I'm
not enrolled in EFTPS and that I need to go to the website to
enroll..... fuuuuuck.... OK
I enroll.... it says in 2 weeks ill have my shit.....
Well, today, I get a letter with a 18 digit enrollment number, a 4 digit
pin, and a 6 digit internet password.....
Ok sweet...
Log into Quickbooks, submit my shit... enter my PIN and password.......
In 48 hours Ill know if it worked.
Ok fine.. So I go to submit the form.
It says I need a 10 digit form password....
HOLY FUCK!!

The site is a fucking nightmare. I thought I had myself all set up and had made a $300 payment against a 2005 settlement. Later I get a shitty letter in the mail saying I missed my payment. I found out later the electronic routing is hosed up at EFTPS and it never made the transfer. So, now they want to tack on additional interest.
I go to make another payment and click and click and click and click trying to get the site to accept my stupid payment.
Later I discovered that it applied the payment to the 2007 tax year!! Then I discover there is no way on the site to change it or redirect the payment to another year. Great, now I'm $600 behind... More interest and another shitty letter from the IRS!
The site is not at all intuitive... They ask for all these dates, like filing date and payment date... What filing date? Payment date? --like now!!
Depending on how you answer the stupid questions determines whether the transfer will go against the right tax year and against the right tax form.
The Phone Help at EFTPS is like placing a call to Pluto and expecting someone intelligent to be there to help.

They applied my $935 payment to 2008 year (!) and inspite of talking to the IRS and they telling me they have fixed the year, they now took out my stimulus check against that and tell me I still owe $335 + interest (of course)... I will regret this for the rest of my life.... why did I not just cut a damn check...

One on my clients has a nut-case of an IRS agent (she showed up here, a place of business, one day in a bathrobe and slippers to deliver papers) that's on a vendetta to make my client unhappy as the IRS agent is pissed we made a few well placed phone calls that go her off the case. Well she's back with her random penalty and interest charges (no basis) and swept the client's bank account today so now the client can't even do business to earn money. NO WARNING just take the money after 1.5 years of no communication not with standing the client called and wrote continuously to find out if all was settled.
We need a lot of people to start calling Senators, Reps etc and raising hell as after 30+ years of being in small business I've completely had it with the government's tactics of making it so the small business owner can't make a living and not go crazy in the process.

The IRS depresses the shit out of me. I owe them money and am trying to get an offer in compromise accepted. It amazes me that even though I make a minimal amount of money, own nothing but an old car, can't afford to go to the doctor or have health insurance... can barely pay rent - yet they are certain I have more than enough money to pay the whole amount (80K)... If they don't accept my offer I'll basically be spending the rest of my life in poorer shape than I am in now.. just to pay them... I could cry or puke.

There are actual issues in regards to quickbooks you should be aware of. one of these are when you need to void a transaction make sure you memo why you voided it. Did the customer refuse to pay the invoice, did you give away the product, did the bookkeeper double enter something? Put a memo because you won’t remember in a few years why you did it.
Disgruntled people. You could always e-mail the IRS for your complaints. I understand the sudden outburst, but I think this could be properly addressed.
